If you return to Los Angeles a week later, on September 24, Alaska has a flight out of San Jose at 1:30am, which may be a bit inconvenient, but it keeps the fare at $356.
All fares shown in this group of reduced flights only apply to the basic economy option. In this case, the basic economy class for Alaska is the airline’s Saver option and does not include seat selection. Passengers flying the Saver fare are also unable to make changes to their flights and are the last to board. Therefore, you may also experience a lack of overhead bin space for your hand luggage if your flight is full.
Despite these restrictions, this price point for a trip to San Jose is considered low, according to Google Flights; Typically, the cheapest flights to the Costa Rican capital are between $930 and $2,050.
While some airlines’ basic economy fares still allow you to choose a seat on the plane for an additional fee, Alaska does not allow its Saver customers to choose a seat in the main cabin portion of the plane.
