TSA Reduces PreCheck Enrollment Fee

The US Transportation Security Administration said it is lowering the initial registration fee for TSA PreCheck, the agency’s trusted traveler program.

The change reduces the cost from $85 to $78, effective immediately, and the membership is valid for five years, if approved.

The cost to renew online remains at $70.

Passengers at a PreCheck security checkpoint do not have to remove their shoes, belts and light jackets during screening, and can leave laptops and liquids in their carry-on luggage.

The PreCheck program first launched in October 2011 and more than 115 airports in the United States offer PreCheck.

The Transportation Security Administration expanded the PreCheck trusted traveler program to include airlines outside the US in April 2014. The first such airline to participate was Air Canada, and the first European airline to join was Lufthansa.
